Plan your painting project before the estimate
Make a room and surface list, note worn areas, and prepare questions about access, furniture and daily life. A clear plan starts the estimate conversation.
Describe the result you want
Start with what you want to change. You may want new colors throughout the home, fresh paint in familiar colors, or a few rooms to feel finished. Write down that goal before making a list of paint choices.
Separate the work you want now from ideas for later. For a whole-home repaint, include halls, stairs and other spaces between rooms. If only selected rooms are part of the plan, make those limits clear. Note any finish you want to keep.
Make a room and surface checklist
Walk through the home with a short list for each room. A room name alone does not say whether you want only walls painted or the ceiling and woodwork too. List closets separately and ask which parts can be included.
Use these prompts for each space. Add any color or finish choices you have made, and flag choices you still want to discuss.
- Walls: which rooms and connecting spaces?
- Ceilings: all, selected rooms or none?
- Trim: baseboards, window trim and door frames?
- Doors: which doors and which sides?
- Closets: walls, ceilings, doors or other surfaces?
- Built-ins: which pieces should be reviewed?
Point out the current surface condition
Note nail holes, cracks, rough spots, stains and loose paint. Show these areas during the estimate review. Ask what preparation or repair belongs in the painting scope, and whether any issue needs separate attention first.
Mention high walls, stairways and detailed trim. For exterior painting, list the outside surfaces and places that are hard to reach. Photos can help explain your request, but include a written description of what you want painted.
Discuss furniture, belongings and access
Tell the painter whether the home will be furnished during the project. Ask who will move large items and what you should remove from shelves or walls. Discuss fragile items, electronics and belongings that need special care.
Ask how the crew will enter and reach each work area. Point out narrow stairs or rooms with limited space. Agree which paths and entrances need to stay open. Confirm the preparation expected from you before moving things or clearing rooms.
Plan around life in the home
If you will stay in the home, explain which rooms you need each day. Mention working from home, children and any household needs that affect access. Ask about the order of work and when painted spaces can be used again.
Include pets in the conversation. Where can they stay away from work areas? How will doors be managed when the crew enters? Ask what dust, odors or noise to expect, and what steps should be agreed for your household.
Share dates and prepare your questions
Give your preferred timing and explain any move, sale or event date. Ask when work could start and how the proposed scope affects the schedule. Discuss what would happen if plans change or an area needs extra work.

“Scott and his assistant did a fantastic job at our house! We had a list of small, but tedious, paint and drywall projects that needed to be complete before selling our house. He gave us a very reasonable quote, showed up on time, and did a fantastic job! We had a drywall project that we were worried would never look perfect no matter who did it... well, it looks perfect! He was even patient through our wishy washy communication skills and didn't get aggravated like others might have. Would highly recommend Still Perfection!!”

“Still Perfection is now our official go-to for any future painting needs!! Scott and his team do amazing work!! Our fence, which was once left unfinished and a thin, dull white by our previous painter, is now bright and vivid! They even got into the cracks that we didn't think it was possible to reach! We highly recommend Still Perfection Painting!!”
